This Amphibian Is Insanely Bizarre

Sure, that purple frog was weird, but the Surinam Toad probably tops it in sheer bizarreness.
Found in South America, the “pipa pipa” or Surinam toad (family Pipidae) has a flat, squarish body, flat head, and loose flaps of skin on the face that make it look like somebody stepped on it.
What we love about it is its means of reproduction: the male toad sort of “presses” the eggs on the female’s back (as you can see below), and in the next several hours, skin begins growing around the eggs to enclose them until the whole shit looks like some cringe-worthy colony of “cysts with horny lids.” [Click to enlarge]
