Man Lived Without a Heart for 48 Days

Louis Quarterman showed that being “heartless” doesn’t necessarily mean being dead. Doctors had removed his heart some months ago for a transplant, but the replacement organ took time to arrive — in fact, it took 48 days because maybe the person from whom they were taking the new heart just wouldn’t die yet.

Meanwhile, Quarterman, literally heartless with a large hole on his chest, remained alive with machines pumping his blood and taking care of the circulation.

Now the guy has a new heart and he’s already recovered enough to actually hold a press conference. I’m tempted to ask Quarterman some very perceptive questions like, “What about your sex life during those 48 days? Was it hot?” But something tells me he would probably shoot me.
