For The First Time, The Original Version Of The Malolos Constitution Is Now Available Online!

One hundred eight years ago today, the ill-fated First Philippine Republic, complete with its own constitution, was born in Barasoaín Church in the sleepy town of Malolos, Bulacán. Although it was never recognized by other nations, it was still a genuine government since the Philippine’s already declared its independence seven months earlier. And Spain wasn’t able to do anything about it.

Today, the hot smoke of changing the current Philippine constitution hasn’t really cleared up yet, especially since the Philippines is ruled by a very opportunistic government. So in retrospect, let us examine the simplicity and goodwill of that short-lived republic’s constitution.

The internet is already replete of the said constitution’s English translations. Now, for the first time in internet history, and in commemoration of the 108th anniversary of The First Philippine Republic, I present to the World Wide Web the original version of the Malolos Constitution…
