Stolen Cell Phone “Auto-Publishes” the Thief’s Inane Life in Pictures

Web designer Ben Clemens lost his mobile phone while on an Amtrak commuter train sometime last August. Shortly later, he’d discover that the stolen phone — being used by the thief by then — was still auto-uploading photos to Clemens’s Flickr account taken with the phone.

Clemens had installed Shozu, an auto-uploading software, on the phone long before it was stolen. So in the course of a few days, Clemens would discover a few things about his wonderful, artistic thief:

  1. The thief owned a chihuahua dog and had a wife who loved sitting in the path of the aircon’s blast and who probably ignored him most of the day so he’s forced to taking candid pictures of her as some sick form of seeking attention.
  2. The thief probably owned some kick-ass car, but I say probably because there’s some confusion regarding ownership, which is what usually happens with things concerning thieves.
  3. The thief was obsessed with his teddy bear.

When the phone finally stopped uploading new photos to Flickr, one could only speculate on ugly, unspeakable things: whatever happened to the cute, innocent characters in this web play?

At least it’s calming to think that by the looks of this dog, it probably tasted good when deep-fried, salsa sauce and all.
