Estonia’s Officials Would Like You To Know Its First National Internet Election Has Been Tested On Animals
Filed under: The Web
The Baltic state of Estonia is beating everyone by using e-voting in its parliamentary election on March 4.
And if you’re a First World person who didn’t even have any idea there was a country called Estonia and you’re somewhat concerned about the efficiency of this new-fangled system — which the country seems to be hastening to chew up with its baby teeth — Estonia’s officials proudly say they tested the system earlier this week on animals, and it was a huge, sweeping success.
“It is hard to say how many people could vote (via the Internet), but 3,925 people used the system over the last week, when we used different testing scenarios to vote for the king of the forest,” said Arne Koitmae of the electoral commission.
It might not be a totally unnecessary move for Estonia’s top officials to make a quick high-impact campaign to remind everyone that the “animal testing” has stopped, and that this time, on March 4, they’re voting for real people. We repeat, real people.
