A Blogger’s Prayer

It’s Holy Week. And we’re reminded by one “holy” episode of The Simpsons that was shown almost two years ago.

In that episode, Bart and Homer were almost recruited into the Catholic fold. A concerned Marge confronted them about this (The Simpsons are Protestants). But Bart, influenced by a fun-loving and “cool” priest (voiced by Liam Neeson) in the Catholic school he was then attending, joyously yelled ”Catholic’s rock!” to his disgruntled mom.

And when Marje went up to her husband Homer, she was given a much wittier reply: ”Catholics Rule! We’ve got Boston, South America, and the good part of Ireland”!

Quite true.

Many bloggers, Catholics or non-Catholics, atheists or theists or dentists or mad scientists, whether they’ve seen that hilarious episode or not, may never agree with Bart’s shout for joy. And some might even criticize Homer for not mentioning the Philippines, the only officially Catholic country in a continent filled with cow worshippers, people idolizing a pot-bellied and chinky eyed gold god, and kebab-eating followers of a Meccan sex freak in a turban.

Unfortunately, The Simpsons remained Protestants. Thus, how’d they be able to relay to Lisa –the smartest and most intelligent Simpson member– this “prayer” once she learns how to blog?

But to those who already blog (particularly those who would like to “feel” this year’s Lenten Season), you may want to check out this far more serious (and “controversial“) blogger’s prayer which was convocated in the recently concluded 2007 Philippine Blog Awards.
