The so-called Face on Mars — an ancient Martian mound that looks like a human face — was taken by NASA in 1976 and has since spawned conspiracy theories and myths about ancient civilizations.

And it has been a fun 30 years — says Space, “The ‘Face on Mars’ has since become a pop icon. It has starred in a Hollywood film and has appeared in books, magazines and radio talk shows… Some people think the Face is bona fide evidence of life on Mars — evidence that NASA would rather hide, say conspiracy theorists.”

But new images from the European Space Agency’s Mars Express orbiter are about to snuff out the fun as the new photos will show that the “face” is a natural formation, and that there was nothing, nothing, nothing.
