Stop Laughing About Uganda’s “Payphone In The Middle Of Lake” Project
Filed under: Telecom, Weird Shit
This pay cellphone in the middle of Uganda’s Lake Victoria was supposedly staged by South Africa’s Remkor Technologies to demonstrate the possibilities with solar power and GSM technology, which of course, are two things the rest of the world are already so savvy with. The point seems best explained in the context of Ugandan fishermen’s constant need to be accessible at all times, especially in those crucial moments their secretaries need their urgent decision on whether the fish at home should be sun-dried, julienned, or just thrown in a pot of boiling water.
