The Labrador — And The Man-made Device — That Can Sniff Cancer

All a black 5-year-old Labrador named Marine has to do is sniff someone’s breath to detect 18 different kinds of cancer. The dog sort of inspired Japanese biomimetics company Seems Inc. to create a cellphone-sized sensor that “mechanically replicates this dog’s olfactory skills,” which would be for sale in the coming months for under 10,000 yen. The device sounds a lot of fun — you can walk down the road and tell any random stranger about their cancer. It’s like seeing dead people.
