Silly Gadget: Plexeraser CD/DVD Destroyer
Filed under: Gadgets, Technology
Plextor is coming out with a CD/DVD drive that doesn’t write, but destroys data. The Plexeraser Destroyer is like the DVD drive version of a paper shredder—you have some sensitive stuff on a CD or DVD somewhere (like nude photos of the granny next door) and you want it to be utterly, totally, completely destroyed like Iraq and most Filipinos’ sense of direction, you insert the discs of your affection and Bam! It’s gone.
I4UNews reports:
“Instead of just brusing the underside of the disc, the Plexeraser actually re-writes over the disc and physically makes all the data written to it inaccessible. It’s a great gadget for all of our secret IRS agent readers (yes, we know you’re here), but probably not of interest to a wide audience.”
Frankly, I think this drive is darned useless for ordinary folks like me. If I have discs I’d want to destroy, I just break them in half with my bare hands, or glue them on the doghouse’s roof and walls as some kind of “reflector.” The dog loves it; with all those shiny things, the dog thinks he’s Snoop Dogg with all the bling-bling.
