Japanese Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Road Music

Three highways in Japan hum a tune as your vehicle’s wheels drive on them. Called “melody roads,” they “sing” because of about 2,600 unevenly spaced ridges and tracks onto the road surface. Local authorities say creating these musical roads cost 2.2 million yen ($20,000) but hey, singing roads? Even on zero-visibility, rainy nights? Who doesn’t love that kind of remote mountain pass entertainment?
