China Joins The High-Def DVD Format War With Its “CH-DVD”

CH-DVD

China has decided to up the ante with its current international “cuteness” (thanks in large part to toxic toys, worm-filled chocolates and some other stuff that are too “heartbreakingly cute” to mention) by introducing a third incompatible DVD format called China High-Definition DVD (CH-DVD), planting itself in the middle of the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD format war. CH-DVD has been “created” by the smart guys at the awesome-sounding Optical Memory National Engineering Research Center (OMNERC), with some help from the Foundation of China High Definition DVD Industry Association (CHDA), both of which feel like they were “officialized” just yesterday. The CH-DVD, however, appears like it’s “copied” from Toshiba’s HD-DVD format, only enriched with some proprietary code that makes it unique.
