The Pi Recital And The Rice Balls That Made It Possible

While many 60-year-old men chase schoolgirls and sniff panties, Akira Haraguchi chose not to stray from the right path and instead dedicated his precious time eating rice balls in the bathroom cubicle — and painstakingly memorizing 100,000 decimal places of pi.

Haraguchi, a Japanese mental health counselor who probably needs some counseling himself after this feat, recited last Wednesday the said 100,000 decimal places to get the Guiness Book of World Records knocking on his door. It took him 16 hours to finish the “recital,” although an ugly thought nags us: he might have skipped decimals during those small moments everybody in the public hall in Tokyo’s Kisarazu had dozed off out of sheer, bone-cracking boredom.
