Point Of Contention On That Supposed Daguerreotype Of Abe Lincoln As A Young Man

Artist Joelle Steele emailed to say that the photo below, supposedly of Abraham Lincoln in his younger years, isn’t actually Abe.
Joelle writes:
I keep seeing this Kaplan photo all over the Web, and it is NOT Lincoln. This is not just an idle opinion on my part. I have spent 25 years studying facial feature analysis and identification, and the one thing I have learned — something the FBI teaches its own forensic teams — is that the ears do not lie! There are actually several discrepancies between the facial features of the two men, but the ears on Kaplan’s daguerreotype do not even come close to matching Lincoln’s, and ears do not change for any reason during a person’s life — not trauma, not accident, not anything else. Lincoln’s ears are placed at a more upright angle from the head, they are also set significantly and very noticeably higher above the jaw line, his lobes are far larger, and his intertragic arch (the opening just above the lobe) is set much higher.
I know people want Kaplan’s daguerreotype to be Lincoln, but it simply isn’t, and you can’t make it be Lincoln when one look at the ears alone will tell you it can’t be the same person. And I have not seen a single article indicating that Frechette or any other expert has ever taken the time to examine and compare the ears in these two images — a very major oversight. If you want to see my very short article that shows photographic enlargments of the ears of these two men, you can read it at:
The part about Lincoln is on the lower half of the page.
