A Tallahassee man missing his left foot was found in a ditch early this morning in front of 3717 Apalachee Parkway, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

Daniel White, 43, had been struck by a car sometime last night. Someone heard White calling for help about 3:50 a.m. and called police. When they arrived, they found him in the ditch, with his left foot missing and lower left leg shattered, according to the police report.

He had been walking east on Apalachee Parkway in the median, and officers believe he may have stumbled into west-bound traffic when he was struck. White did not remember what happened, the report said, and police could not find any witnesses who could say what happened.

The report said that White had been taken involuntarily to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital by Leon County Sheriff’s deputies under the Marchman Act, which allows people with substance abuse problems to be committed to treatment if it is deemed they could be a threat to themselves or others.
