Dead MySpace Members

Alyssa Buckley was a pretty, fun-loving teen. Her profile on MySpace gives you a fair idea of what kind of kids she used to hang out with, songs she enjoyed, and all that teenage jazz. But last month, she died in a fire in New York.

Alyssa and about 400 others like her–MySpace users who passed on–are listed on this admittedly morbid but ultimately poignant MyDeathSpace website. The site pretty much drives home a strong sense of how fragile life is, and at times, it’s kinda overpowering–because you see faces that still had much life in them.

It also unintentionally shows a striking statistic: that young people so commonly die from mindless recklessness–shot to death, drug overdose, pranks gone horribly wrong, vehicle accidents.

In one line: What a waste.
