Corinne to Chase the Blues Away

I’ve recently discovered Corinne Bailey Rae, and girl, what a pleasant voice. Her eponymous first album, released last February, packs a blissful set of Billie Holiday-esque songs, such as “Just Like a Star” and “Choux Pastry Heart.”

She’s truly great food for the ears and soul. My personal favorites are the bluesy “Put Your Records On” and the infectious “Call Me When You Get This,” which reminds me of the best pieces of Eryka Badu and Macy Gray.

You should really, really hear her. For a sampling, her official website plays some of her album’s best tracks. The songs are so moving and filled with heart, and her loveliness sometimes makes me so lesbian I couldn’t stop gazing. But don’t mind me; the sound is the most important thing. I even think she’s Britain’s new and worthy princess of soul.
