The vicious-looking machine you see above is one of the earliest electrical vibrators made, circa early 1900s. And here we were thinking those seemingly meek-as-lamb turn-of-the-century ladies were already happy with pogo sticks.
By 1917, there were more vibrators than toasters in American homes. Dozens of patents were issued for new designs between 1900 and 1940.
