…and the Best Firework Award goes to… Dell!

Engadget reports that there’s another Dell notebook, a Latitude D410, that exploded in Singapore. It’s the third Dell casualty in this on-going saga about brave, selfless modern devices going before their time. And again, it’s still about the batteries.

The Sydney Morning Herald says:

“But remember, these are not simply reports of overheating. We’re talking about full on explosions, flames, molten plastic and the lot.

Two of them happen after the bettery recall last December and it’s unclear whether the Singapore incident reported in our story today was one of three cases Dell referred to when they announced the recall.

Already there’s been suggestions that the problems were more widespread than Dell first admitted.”

Somewhere, Stephen King must be rubbing his palms and jumping on the trampoline–all these supposedly meek, little batteries figuring in spontaneous combustions, don’t they look like good fodder for the sequel to Cell? Maybe in a month or so, Stephen King’s going to announce the title of the Cell sequel, which I feel might simply be one spine-tingling word:

Dell.

Snappy.
