Man to the Extreme

Maddox is probably what old-school men’s (what feminists today would call “male chauvinist pigs”) answer to the Feminazi. And that’s a huge funny compliment.
To anybody who’s not been laughing with Maddox on his way to the bank, you can all laugh by yourself now with the release of his new book, The Alphabet of Manliness.
Brazenly unapologetic but painfully funny, Maddox and his works are everything people like those in GABRIELA or the budding metrosexual will hate, what with pieces like “Why change your car’s oil when your girlfriend can do it?” or “How to kill yourself like a man.”
Asked by Salon about his hugely popular website’s shift from being “anti-trend” to something about manliness, Maddox says:
“…I was reading this book about lesbians, and it had pictures in it. It was almost like a graphic novel. And I was thinking, “Why hasn’t someone done this kind of book, except for guys?” The way I’ve written the book is as a parody of a children’s book and a reference book. And I always wanted to write children’s books, except I hate kids.”
But funny or not, The Alphabet of Manliness remains “a letter-by-letter guide to all things male, macho and masculine, is pumped full of aggression toward the weak, the flabby, the girly men of the world.”
And either the world has grown sicker, jaded, or more “macho,” but many must love the book: it has recently topped Amazon’s sales list.
