India’s Milk-Drinking Gods
Thousands of Indians on Monday proved that, along with their deep affection for giant rats, they also love their ancient statues more than themselves. At the center of all this excitement are India’s milk-slurping gods, who, according to one priest, could “drink” up to 10 liters of milk.
This is the part where I make my fine juxtaposition: on one hand, you have people slaking off the thirst of stone statues; on the other, you have the same dudes eagerly drinking “miraculous” water on a bay contaminated with sewage and industrial waste.
In a world that is so awash in crap, it’s always good to find these rare gems of age-old wisdom in action. More of these, please.
