Debunking Myths About Evolution

I’d usually meet people who’d kick around human evolution like a tin can. Why does everybody “feel” like they fully understand it, especially the religious folk. I don’t pretend to be an expert on it, but if you’d make me choose between “God made us” and “We arose from primitive life forms,” I’d always choose the latter. Why? Because intelligent people worked hard to find answers to these issues, and they haven’t stopped yet. And somehow, it’s laughable to meet people in the 21st century still confidently armed with answers made up by our hunter-gatherer ancestors. Sure, people are entitled to their own opinion. But “ignorance, baby,” as Scott Adams love saying, “is not an opinion.”
Steven Dutch cuts the crap with his Top Ten Myths About Human Evolution. And of the ten, my all-time favorites are these three:
1. “Human evolution is only a theory”: Somehow, people equate “theory” with “guess” or anything that sounds stupid.
2. “If nobody saw it, we can’t be sure it happened.” Whoa.
3. “Humans evolved from Monkeys”: No, humans didn’t specifically evolve from monkeys; but humans and monkeys came from a common ancestor. Surprised?
Don’t let me kill all the fun. See Steven Dutch’s own words.
