China’s recently enacted law effectively bans Buddhist monks from “reincarnating without government permission.” This may put a dent on Tibet’s normally healthy reincarnation business, with many now choosing to be reborn as a New York taxicab driver instead of the regular monastery bricklayer/poop scooper.
